A Critical Review of the Effect of Portfolio Assessment on Writing Anxiety, Performance and Autonomy

چکیده :

The present review paper aims to provide a perspective on portfolio assessment in second language writing anxiety and autonomy. 40 articles were categorized into four areas: (a) exploring the effect of portfolio-based learning on writing, (b) the effect of the portfolio on anxiety, (c) the effect of the portfolio on autonomy, (d) A portfolio plays a vital role. Findings have shown that portfolio assessment enhances student's writing ability. To provide this, the present research sought to show the impact of portfolio-based writing instruction on writing anxiety, writing performance, and the autonomy of EFL students. Also, it had been shown that the level of student's anxiety decreased through the using portfolio assessment. Results of the studies show that portfolio assessment has a positive significant effect on EFL learners of language learning and writing skills. The Review will highlight the positive effects of portfolio assessment on EFL learners' writing ability, autonomy, and reduced anxiety, as well as the potential benefits of adopting this approach in language education. The findings will contribute to understanding technology's role in language education, specifically in the investigation, evaluation, enhancement, and utilization of portfolio-based learning's impact on writing anxiety, performance, and autonomy.
